11th May 2017 – G3 Futures - an annual event for games developers and industry specialists in Guildford and the South East is taking place at the University of Surrey’s 5G Innovation Centre on Wednesday 5 July from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
Free to attend, the event - organised by Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing at the University of Surrey, Ukie (UK Interactive Entertainment trade body) and South East technology law specialist Charles Russell Speechlys - will provide an opportunity for local gaming companies to hear about the latest industry innovations and discuss issues impacting the Guildford-based gaming community. This will be followed by drinks and a barbecue – a great networking opportunity for all attendees.
Nick Hurley, Partner at Charles Russell Speechlys and Co-Host of the G3 Futures event comments, “Guildford is often referred to as ‘the Hollywood of the games industry’. Our focus at this year’s G3 event is very much on how we can all work together to maintain this status and retain Guildford’s reputation as a major technology and games hub. We will be discussing a wide range of issues including how to develop talent and how to build the infrastructure we need for future growth. We will also discuss the actions we need to take to raise our profile as a key business cluster at a national and international level in order to attract more funding, resources and support.”
Prof. Adrian Hilton, Director of CVSSP at the University of Surrey adds, “G3 Futures is all about expanding the games footprint in Guildford and collaborating to provide a stronger community for the future. Last year’s event attracted over 150 people from local gaming companies and associated industries – and we are hoping that our third annual event will build on previous successes and provide these companies with useful contacts and insight in order to help their businesses to thrive in Guildford.”
Dr Jo Twist OBE, CEO of Ukie, says ‘It’s important at this time politically that we highlight the great strengths and hubs of the games and interactive entertainment industries around the UK, but also to highlight the priorities of those businesses at a local, national and international level so they can continue to thrive. The G3 event brings together the great businesses in Guildford and surrounding area to address these priorities, as one of the biggest and most established hubs of games activity in the UK.’
G3 Futures is also a showcase for the latest developments in the industry. The University of Surrey will be launching a new digital games initiative linking the games community to state-of-the-art facilities and technology for VR, performance capture and 5G mobile communications. There will also be an opportunity for companies to exhibit and demonstrate a variety of relevant, state-of-the-art technology.
The G3 Futures key note speaker and panellists will be announced in the next few weeks. For further information or to register to attend, please visit www.guildford-games.com or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
